I wanted a seed bait to complement my experiment with big Beans on the hook when Carp Fishing. Wheat fits the bill nicely. Its cheap and easy to prepare and it can be dyed so that it stands out even more.

Great Den. I’ve used it as a change hookbait in winter to catch at my club water, apparently a lot of the stock fish are fed on wheat when grown as it’s such good value.
Interesting. Fermentation will also release the sugars in the wheat and possibly make the bait a bit sweeter – if not put it under an airlock and let it bubble away for a few weeks.
I used to boil my own Hemp back in my fit days. Never used Wheat but will try and find a small supply to have a play with that is for sure. Great Vid once more.
Maybe throw in some curry powder? 😀 Have you tried rice?👍👍
Hi Den, nice video as always. With wheat I catch nice big roaches in the spring. This is a bait that has been forgotten.
Used wheat on the canals in Serbia great bait for roach and bream
Can you use this as a hook bait – and if so how?? SM
As you said Den I had forgotten about wheat, we used it in the 60’s along with hemp seed (prepaird in the same way fished with a no. 20 hook, spade end, doubt if I cauld tie one now!), must try it this year, Thank you for the video…
Pearl barley is still great for catching roach easy to get and prepare just put some in a flask and add boiling water and leave over night
Thanks, Den.
I’ve never tried wheat as a bait, I’ll definitely give it a try.
Cheers Den ,my dad used to use barley in the 60s for roach on the Trent ,thanks for reminding me how good a bait it is for carp
