WHAT ARE YOUR SALARY EXPECTATIONS? BAD ANSWER 01:14
So, that was a weak answer that gives the hiring manager the opportunity to offer you the lowest salary possible. The response lacked preparation and confidence.
But how should you answer it to get the highest salary achievable?
Well, let me give you 3 POWERFUL TIPS for answering the question, WHAT ARE YOUR SALARY EXPECTATIONS and I will then show you a brilliant and confident response in a live interview.
TIP #1 – Research the going salary for your job and industry before you attend the interview. This is very important because it shows how much other people are being paid for the same job. If you visit the website PAYSCALE.COM it will tell you how much the salary range is for your role and industry. This then gives you something to work with when discussing your salary expectations at the interview.
TIP #2 for answering the question, WHAT ARE YOUR SALARY EXPECTATIONS, is to write down a list of the things you can bring to their company – this is important. The more VALUE YOU CAN ADD to their company, the higher salary you will attract.
Your list could include things such as:
– outstanding work performance in previous companies;
– qualifications or courses you have completed that will help their company grow;
– technical skills and qualities you have that their company is lacking;
– in-depth knowledge of the industry you will be working in;
– and previous examples of where you have helped a company increase sales, streamline processes, or save money.
TIP #3 for answering the tough interview question, WHAT ARE YOUR SALARY EXPECTATIONS, is to write down 2 NUMBERS before you go to the interview. The first number is the actual salary you really want. This will be the highest salary you believe you can get. The second number is the absolute lowest salary you are prepared to work for. If they offer you a salary lower than this, you will turn down the job!

Sir can u please keep the answer for a behavioral question tat asked a fresher by an interviewer tat how u creat a fun activity in the team
Hi Richard. I think this response is brilliant…it justifies why you should be paid what you’re worth. I was very unprepared when I accepted my current position, and I was low balled on the salary, and I am kicking myself every day. I am more prepared now! I know my next role will pay me what I deserve. Great video!!!
The videos are really great. I really enjoyed my interview yesterday because of you. However a new question popped up
Question: Tell me about a time when you took an initiative and how did it go
Hey there Richard how’ve you been? Richard, when we tell the hiring manager our expected salary, then some shrewd hiring managers asks” is this amount negotiable?” Now what should be the best answer for this question?🤔
From my experience with interviews, that response, though very good, is way too long for a question like that. You’ll notice 90% cent of interviewers already try to cut you short once you’ve mentioned a figure, and long answers like that do not support your claims of ability to summarise information, which may be one of the skills required for the job you’re interviewing for.
Love this! Brilliant answers!
